Cornbread Recipe
- ¾ tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Vegetable Shortening
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1¾ cups Stone-ground Cornmeal
- 2 cups Buttermilk
- 2 large Eggs
Method
- Set the oven to 450° F to preheat it.
- In the meantime, put cornmeal, baking soda, baking powder, sugar and salt in a large bowl and whisk them together.
- Put the eggs in a bowl and beat them well until they are fluffy.
- Pour butter milk to it while beating the eggs continuously.
- Mix cornmeal and egg mix and stir them until they are roughly blended to get the cornbread texture.
- Pout the vegetable shortening in the center of an 8" x 8" glass baking pan and heat it in the oven until smoke rises from it.
- Pull the pan out quickly and pour the batter in the pan.
- Bake the batter for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the top of the cornbread is brown and when you poke a sterilized needle in its center and pull it again, it is firm and needle comes out clean.
