Samuel Falkner (Hugh Grant) is a child psychiatrist and a completely
carefree guy with no responsibilities. He has no kids and is also in no
need of them. He gets the shock of his life when he comes to know that
his girlfriend (of five years), Rebecca Taylor (Julianne Moore), is
pregnant. He starts having nightmares of what his life would be like
after marriage and fatherhood. Adding to his miseries is Gail Dwyer
(Joan Cusack), a friend of Rebecca who seems to be chronically pregnant.
Scared of commitment and responsibility, he advices Rebecca to abort
the child. However, when he sees the ultra sound of his soon-to-be-born
son, he realizes that he wants to accept this responsibility. Robin
Williams also has a small role in Nine Months. He plays the part of Dr.
Kosevich, an obstetrician, with a weak grasp of the English language and
helps in bringing a few funny moments in the movie.
