Placing Halloween Tombstones
- For a foreboding look, use tombstones of several styles. Uneven placement of tombstones in the graveyard will make it look old, especially if some of them are put at angles, are misaligned and crooked.
- In real-life cemetery, graves are usually placed seven feet apart, in rows. But at your Halloween party, you may have to adjust the distance according to the space available. However, do make sure to keep at least some space between the tombstones, for a better illusion. A foot or two between the tombstones and about 4 feet of space between the rows usually does the trick.
- Tilt some of the tombstones to make the condition of the graveyard look rundown. This will help to make your graveyard setting look very realistic and help you give a real fright to your guests. Tombstones with epitaphs and designs will look absolutely great.
How to Put up Tombstones in Halloween Graveyard
- To secure the tombstones to the ground, drill a hole into the bottom of the tombstone a couple of inches from each end.
- Insert the spikes in these holes using sharpened pieces of dowel or giant nails.
- Now, lightly set the tombstone (with spikes) on the ground and mark the position of the spikes.
- Make holes at the markings using sharpened dowel and insert the spikes of the tombstone in the holes.
- If you are making a graveyard on cemented or floored venue, you can drill the spikes in a wooden frame and drill the spike holes into the tombstone.
- Set the tombstone on the wooden base, after applying white glue to the spikes and inside spike holes, for firmer setting.
- Cover the base with dirt, moss and dust, until it comes to just above the edge of the tombstone, to hide the base.
