AUSTRALIA
The Australian Education Union has informed that World Teachers' Day will be celebrated on the last Friday in October -28th this year- to avoid school holidays. AEU intends to organize a public event and lobby political leaders to sensitize the theme of teacher training. They will arrange interviews in the national press and will cover the events on their newsletter and website.
FRANCE
The Federation des Syndicats Généraux de l'Education Nationale et de la Recherche (SGEN-CFDT) will meet with the authorities on World Teacher's Day. The organization is also planning to contact the press and to disseminate information about World Teacher's Day in its publications. The Syndicat National Unitaire des instituteurs, professeurs des écoles (SNUipp) is considering the possibility of meeting the authorities. The SNUipp will publish information about World Teachers' Day in its magazine Fenêtres sur cours and on its website.
INDIA
The All India Secondary Teachers' Federation (AISTF) is planning to meet the authorities and print World Teacher's Day material locally. The events taking place on October 5th will be reported in the federation's newsletter and national media. The All India Federation of Teachers' Organization (AIFTO) will be part of a national coalition, which includes UNESCO. AIFTO intends to print World Teacher's Day material locally and attain high visibility in national media.
UK
The National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) is organizing a high profile event, where Education International Executive Board member Teopista Birungi will give a speech. The National Union of Teachers (NUT) will hold a joint reception and photo exhibition with Education Action International (a UK-based charity) under the theme "Teachers in Adversity" on 5th October. There will be brief speeches from NUT General Secretary, Steve Sinnott; the Secretary of State for International Development and Member of the Parliament, Hon. Hilary Benn; the Director of EAI, Cameron Bowles; and Baroness Lola Young.
USA
The National Education Association (NEA) is planning a World Teacher's Day observance during its Board of Directors Meeting, where the World Teacher's Day material will be presented. World Teacher's Day will be featured in its magazine NEA Today and on its web page.
JAPAN
The Japan Teachers' Union (JTU) will raise awareness about World Teacher's Day through its website: www.jtu-net.or.jp and publications.
