Lighting Hanukkah Menorah is one of the main traditions of the Jewish
festival, Chanukah. The Hanukkah menorah is also known as Hanukiyah. It
contains nine candleholders. There are eight candles, one meant for each
night of Chanukah. The ninth one is called Shamash, which is utilized

Chanukah menorah lighting tradition is very important and is observed
in the remembrance of the Maccabees' victory and the miracle of the oil,
which burnt for eight consecutive days in the holy temple. In this
custom, the candles are placed in the menorah from right to left. But,
when they are lit, it is done from left to right. On all the nights of
Hanukkah, the entire Jewish family gathers around the menorah and
recites the blessings. Thereafter, they light the candles.
