Goddess Saraswati is the consort of Lord Brahma and is said to be the Goddess of speech, wisdom and learning. She is dressed in a radiant white sari and sits on a swan. Her four hands represent the four aspects of a human personality of learning, namely, mind, intellect, alertness and ego. She has sacred scriptures in one hand and a lotus, which is the symbol of true knowledge, in the second. With the other two hands, she plays the music of love and life on a string instrument called veena. The learned and erudite consider the worship of Goddess Saraswati of great importance and believe that only she can grant them 'moksha' or the final liberation of the soul.
